The Palm Jumeirah is a man-made island built in the shape of palm tree, covering an area of 7 million square meters and extending 6.5 kilometers into the Arabian Gulf. The island is surrounded by a 12 kilometer long crescent shaped breakwater built with over 7 million tons of rock and sand and extend five kilometers (three miles) into the sea south of Dubai city.
It took around 4 years of planning and comprehensive studies to ensure that construction of this island will not disrupt nature and environment. Currently this island is the largest manmade island covering 560 hectares of land. The whole island consists of three parts which include The Palm Trunk, The Palm Fronds and The Palm Crescent.
Residents and visitors will have access to the Island by 300-metre (990-feet) bridges from the mainland or boat to two marinas, while the main causeway will also have a monorail system.
Palm Jumeirah includes 17 huge fronds and contribute to the city's position as a premier global tourist destination. The island eventually support luxury hotels, exclusive residential beachside villas, residential apartments, two marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities, health spas and cinemas.
Fronds of Palm Jumeirah are locating luxurious villas. There are mainly two types of Villas are built on the fronds of Palm Jumeirah which are Garden Home (4-5 bedrooms) and Signature Villas (5-7 bedrooms villas). Villa prices are purely depending on the frond letter and villa numbers. Villas located on higher frond with high number are more expensive.
Trunk has 6 residential complexes offering a variety of apartments with different design: Marina Residence, Oceana, Tiara, Shoreline apartments, Fairmont Residence, Golden Mile. Some of the apartments have direct access to the beach.
The Palm Crescent housed some of the world renowned and highly luxurious hotels that include the Kempinski Palm Jumeirah Residence, The Grandeur Residences, the “Atlantis” hotel and Emerald Palace Residences.
